Sophie is our clinic’s therapy dog in training. She is an almost four year old, mini goldendoodle. Sophie is passionate about making people smile, playing ball, and getting all the belly rubs.
Therapy dogs have been shown to provide significant impact in treatment, such as lowering anxiety, helping people relax, provide comfort, and increase mental stimulation. Sofie can assist in the recall of memories, as well. She acts as a catalyst in the therapy process by helping to break the ice and reduce initial resistance with therapy.
Further benefits to having Sophie as part of our clinic is the impact on the body. The act of petting can release an automatic relaxation response in the body and promote the release of hormones that elevate mood, such as serotonin, prolactin, and oxytocin.
